Kansas Gov. Kelly to visit areas hit by tornado

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas Governor Laura Kelly plans to tour areas damaged by Tuesday night’s tornado today, her office said.

The twister was rated an EF-4 by the National Weather Service’s survey team Wednesday afternoon. It hit Linwood, Kansas, while at its strongest, with winds reaching up to 170 mph.

After an aerial tour, the governor will see the damage from the ground.

Her office said she does not want to get in the way of emergency personnel, and it’s unclear which areas she’ll be visiting.

Gov. Kelly is expected to address the media later Thursday afternoon.
