KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Kansas Speedway is busy getting ready for a big race weekend.

"Well, obviously we have our big race weekend. We have the end of the second round of the playoffs," Kansas Speedway president Pat Warren said.

Some of the best of the best will race in Kansas City, Kansas, with the race broadcast on national television.

"We will probably have between 80-90,000 (people) on property all on Sunday," Warren said.

A series of events throughout the weekend culminates with the Hollywood Casino 400 on Sunday afternoon. But during it all, racing fans will see something different this weekend.

"One of the things we are doing is we are painting our pit road teal," Warren said. "We are doing that for ovarian cancer awareness."

Organizers were first inspired by a driver's girlfriend, who has battled the specific cancer twice.

"Martin Truex's girlfriend, Sherry Pollex. is an ovarian cancer survivor. She is actually helping us with an event this weekend around women in motorsports" Warren said.

Warren also wanted to honor his connection to the disease.

"We also have a family friend who unfortunately just passed away from ovarian cancer and just felt like something that was the right thing to do," he said.

The speedway has one goal in mind for the special paint job.

"...Which is something that I would say is front of mind is a form of cancer that women have to deal with," Warren said. "That's our goal to just raise awareness."
