KBI investigating former KCK detective after wrongfully convicted man set free

Posted

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A former KCK detective is being investigated by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation for his role in wrongfully convicting a man when he was a teenager.

LaMonte McIntyre was convicted of a double homicide in 1994 at the age of 17. After spending 23 years in prison, his conviction was overturned and now the lead investigator on the case is under investigation.

Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree has asked the Kansas Department of Investigation to look into the allegations against former KCK detective Roger Golubski.

Lindsay Runnels is an attorney who was on McIntyre's defense team.

"Golubski interviewed several of the key witnesses in the case. He conducted the photo array and the photo lineup," said Runnels.

Runnels says the allegations against Golubski include corruption, intimidation, and sexual misconduct.

"The corruption in that department affected LaMonte's case," said Runnels.

Dupree is working to establish a "conviction integrity" unit within the Wyandotte County Prosecutor's office to help right any past wrongs.
