Kansas City Fire Chief Paul Berardi said he was not surprised that Kansas City firefighters were targeted in the Florida terror plot.

According to the FBI, 20-year-old Joshua Goldberg of Orange Park, Fla., was plotting to attack Kansas City firefighters and the crowd at the Stair Climb event this weekend.

Chief Berardi said he heard about the plot on the news and then called his Deputy Chief.

"He knew about it, but because of [the Deputy Chief's] security clearance he could not tell anyone," the fire chief explained.

Chief Berardi said he knows that Kansas City is a target, and he was not surprised Kansas City firefighters were the target of the planned terror attack.

The chief said he does not plan to make any security changes because of it.
