Posted

Kansas City will celebrate the grand opening of the KC Streetcar with a series of outdoor parties May 6 and 7, according to a news release from the KC Streetcar Authority. After years of construction, promotion and testing, the streetcar will begin carrying passengers from the public.

Mayor Sly James said he sees the opening of the streetcar as part of a larger transformation for Kansas City.

"Building owners and developers have completed, started or announced more than $1.6 billion in construction in the KC Streetcar district since the route was announced three years ago," James said in a release. "I'm confident the entire city will find new momentum as the KC Streetcar energizes the city."
