KC Symphony Designer's Showhouse combines love of music with home decor

Posted

You’ve heard of Downton Abbey.

Now, meet Downtown Abby!

Abby Ventrillo, to be exact.

She and her husband, Casey, saw the house at 816 Gleed Terrace in KCMO, while out for a Sunday drive.

It was perfect for the couple who love to entertain friends and family.

So, they made the move from Parkville.

That’s when Abby’s friends started calling her Downtown Abby.

Now, this historic home is the 48th Annual Symphony Designer’s Showhouse.

For Abby, the kitchen is the heart of the home.

Having recently complete culinary school herself, Abby’s great-grandmother once owned two Kansas City eateries.

The kitchen is designed to have Abby cooking and baking away on one end, while visitors congregate to chat and chew on the other.

Meanwhile, Abby’s husband made sure the sink, faucets and dishwasher were in their own area, since he is usually assigned KP.

(By the way, there is also a built-in coffee maker.  Always ready to go.)

Over 40 designers from more than 20 companies came together in the last three months to turn this home into a showplace.

And, this year, make sure to stroll the wrap-around porch.

The outdoor furniture is up for auction.

You can take a part of the Showhouse home and help keep music playing in Kansas City, at the same time.

That, after all, is the main thing: Bolstering the Kansas City Symphony by visiting the Symphony Alliance Showhouse.

Tickets are in the $25 neighborhood to spend a little time in this neighborhood touring a work of art in support of the musical arts.
