KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City International Airport is receiving nearly $8 million from the Federal Aviation Administration in its most recent round of airport safety and infrastructure grants, which total $1.2 billion nationwide.
KCI will get $7,907,978 for taxiway rehabilitation, according to a news release.
Two other Missouri airports — Joplin Regional and St. Louis Lambert International — were awarded similar amounts for taxiway reconstruction.
“This $1.2 billion federal investment will improve our nation’s airport infrastructure, enhance safety, and strengthen growth in local communities, which is especially important as the economy recovers from COVID-19,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao said.
KCI has been the recipient of at least two other federal grants in 2020.
In April, the airport received more than $2.7 million to reconstruct runway lighting.
In June, $6.25 million went to KCI for the reconstruction of the main runway.
KCI has also gotten relief through the CARES Act Airport Grant program, which provided the airport with more than $43 million to handle the COVID-19 pandemic.
