KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City, Missouri, police say it may take three to six months to receive test results from human remains found along the banks of Shoal Creek in the Northland.

The remains were first discovered by a 10-year-old boy on Sunday.

A department spokesperson said KCPD officers and personnel from Missouri Search and Rescue found more remains Tuesday along the creek bank north of Pleasant Valley Road.

KCPD said the remains cannot be tested for DNA because they are too decomposed.

Instead, the remains will undergo advanced testing, which could take between three and six months, KCPD said.

The testing will help determine the gender of the person.

Police said the person has not been identified.
