KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A teenage boy is thankful that two officers with the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department were in the right place at the right time.

On Thursday evening, Officers Whitney and Whitelaw noticed Isaac, 13, hunched over while on patrol near 17th Street and Fuller Avenue.

The officers kept watch and turned the patrol car to help when the teen never straightened his stance.

Isaac was choking on a piece of carrot he had been eating while walking. Officer Whitelaw performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the carrot.

KCPD said Isaac’s mother was grateful for the officers.
