UPDATE: KCPD standoff ends after nearly 4 hours

UPDATE 6:40 a.m.| KCPD confirms the standoff has ended after nearly four hours. 

According to officials, the SWAT team broke down the front door of the residence and was able to take the suspect into custody. 

Police say inside the home was the suspect's son along with another adult woman and both parties safe.

The Kansas City Police Department says they are dealing with an armed subject who is barricaded in a home near 117th and Cleveland Avenue in South Kansas City.

Police state the subject is a suicidal woman who they believed to be armed with children inside the home.

According to officials, police were originally dispatched to the address on a security check regarding child abuse, however the children regarding the call are safe.

Sources say the standoff began around 2:30 a.m. after the subject refused to speak to police.

The SWAT team and hostage negotiators are also on the scene.
