A new bus company may be picking your child up for school on Monday.  Kansas City Public Schools fired Daye Transportation for not meeting safety guidelines on Friday.

First Student will take over its routes.

"We are happy to be a part and extend our relationship and help out the Kansas City schools any way we can," said Jay Brock, First Student spokesperson.

Brock said First Student would run test routes over the weekend to be prepared for Monday.

Though things are expected to go better, the district anticipates there could be a few hiccups even in the second week.

"There's going to be some issue here and there. We're in the first few weeks of school.  That happens everywhere across the country," explained KCPS chief communication officer, Natalie Allen.

Allen explained the impact on parents and students should be very little.  She said Daye started out with 21 routes last Monday. But by Friday, it only had eight.

Now First Student will have all of those as well.

KCPS provided 41 Action News with an Exemplary School Bus Maintenance Award given to First Student.  This is given to companies when 90 percent of its fleet meets regulations and safety standards set by the highway patrol.

Allen said she did not expect any legal ramifications from KCPS terminating its contract with Daye Transportation.  She said the bus company was already breaking the agreement by not meeting safety regulations.
