Kids at Children's Mercy Hospital had their own St. Patrick's Day celebration Thursday morning. Because they can't go outside to the parade, the parade committee brought the party to them.
Patients and their families enjoyed leprechauns, singing and dancing. National Guard soldiers, along with the Kansas City fire and police departments, handed out toys and party goods.
Organizers say they volunteer their time so the kids never feel like they're missing out on the celebration.
"We do this event every year, and a lot of the times it's the children's favorite event of the year," Children's Mercy Child Life program coordinator Trisha Williams said. "The staff really enjoy it too. It's just festive and fun to be able to celebrate a little bit of this holiday."
Children's Mercy and the KC St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee have been collaborating on this event for more than 20 years.
