KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The story of hybrid wolves roaming free in Platte County has gone to the dogs.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office said Friday that the two remaining missing animals thought to be wolf hybrids are really dogs.

The sheriff's department sent out a warning Thursday that four wolf hybrids were on the loose in the area of Missouri 92 and Hornback Road near Smithville.

Two of the animals recovered last night were wolf hybrids.

The Missouri Department of Conservation investigated and found the last two missing animals were just black dogs.

The dogs have not returned home yet, but they have been seen near their home, according to the sheriff's department.

Two other wolf hybrids also escaped initially. One was shot and killed after attacking goats and the other was returned before the sheriff's department announced the escaped animals.
