KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 25-year veteran of the Lenexa Fire Department has been appointed as the city’s fire chief.

Travis Vaughn began with the department as a firefighter and has since held positions of fire chief, battalion chief of operations and deputy fire chief, among others.

“I am extremely humbled to be given the opportunity to serve the Lenexa community as its Fire Chief,” Vaughn said. “I’m excited to continue to carry forward our commitment to excellence with a team of people who are the best in the business.”

City manager Beccy Yocham said she has “great confidence” that Vaughn will succeed in the role.

“He cares deeply about the City of Lenexa and will do an exceptional job leading this important department that provides vital services for our community,” Yocham said.

Vaughn takes on the role Dec. 21 following current Fire Chief Lonny Owens’ retirement.
