LENEXA, Kan.UPDATE 8:30 PM 7/3/2018: The Lenexa City Council sent the proposal for a Quiktrip at 95th and Noland back to the planning commission on Tuesday.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

QuikTrip wants to build its convenience store at the corner of 95th Street and Noland Road in Lenexa.

It will take over the current Phillips 66 gas station on the corner along with a couple houses.

However, some people who live in the area told 41 Action News they are concerned because of the increase in traffic and noise the bigger QuikTrip could bring.

“I don’t think that it’s insane to know that it will double at least. Good luck getting out of our driveway and they are going to put the main entrance directly across from our street,” said Maryanne Johnson.

The proposed QuikTrip is just feet away from her house. Johnson said she doesn’t want to look out her window and see the convenience store.

“There’s established homes in here, there’s a lot of children this is not a good fit for our neighborhood,” said Johnson.

Other neighbors like Aimee McLaughlin just moved into the neighborhood and were shocked to hear about the plans.

“It would be directly catty-cornered from my property and it's my understanding that QuikTrip doesn’t really put any kind of delivery hours or anything so they can get delivery hours all day and night, you know their lights are on all night," said McLaughlin.

QuikTrip spokesman Mike Thornbrugh said the company met with neighbors and listened to their concerns but said the company feels it belongs, “Well we wouldn’t go there if the traffic wasn’t already there, number one, but it’s like everything else we do, everything is preliminary and we are taking our our time.”

Other neighbors feel there’s no use fighting, because they think it’s a forgone conclusion, QuikTrip will build there.

“I’m not going to stop progress, I’m not even going to try, it would be foolish, I’m going to stay here forever,” said Lee Wilson.

The Lenexa City Council will hear this proposal at its meeting on Tuesday, July 3 at 7 p.m.
