KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man accused of killing his girlfriend's father in Overland Park in 2018 and injuring his 6-year-old daughter pleaded guilty on Thursday, according to court records.

Elijah King, 22, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the death of 52-year-old David Slater.

He also pleaded guilty to trafficking in contraband in the Johnson County Jail, according to records.

On April 10, 2018, Overland Park police responded to a shooting near 83rd and Switzer streets. Police said King shot Slater, who was his girlfriend’s father, during an argument. He also shot his 6-year-old daughter in the leg.

King’s sentencing is set for Oct. 10.
