KANSAS CITY, Kan. — At first, a dog's owner thought a man he saw was a good Samaritan.

He now believes that person had sinister motives.

"I thought that he was being a stand up citizen saving a dog from getting hit in the street," the dog's owner Scott Oswalt said.

Oswalt said that on Wednesday night, he and his friends were playing disc golf at Rosedale Park in Kansas City, Kansas. Their three dogs, including Bleu Cheese, were running around.

At the 17th hole, a man caught their eye.

"I saw him pick up something, noticed that my dog wasn't nearby, then noticed that there was an animal in his arms and right when he was getting ready to get back in his car we yelled like 'stop,'" Oswalt said. "He didn't stop and hit the gas and off he went."

The 10 month-old blue French bulldog that Oswalt paid $2,500 dollars for was gone in an instant.

"He's considered a popular breed and kind of an expensive dog so I just hope he doesn't sell it and try to make a profit or something like that," Oswalt said.

Oswalt filed a report with KCK police.

A KCKPD spokesperson said they're not investigating this as a theft.

In a statement, the spokesperson said "there was nothing that led the owner of the dog to believe the other person was taking his dog with the intent to permanently deprive him of the dog. Our officers and animal services staff will keep an eye out for the dog."

Oswalt said his phone number was on the dog’s collar, but without a call from the man, Oswalt is now pleading for the public's help on social media to bring home the pup that's brought him unconditional love.

"I lost my English bulldog about a year ago, I got him to replace him so yeah, he's meant a lot," Oswalt said.

Bleu Cheese has tags and is microchipped.

Microchips - made by several different companies - contain the owner's registered information.

Pet owners are encouraged to make sure the enrollment records are up to date.

As for Oswalt, he's now offering a reward for Bleu Cheese's return.

"Please give him back, please I'll work with you," Oswalt said. "You can drop him off somewhere be anonymous about it. I'm not out to file charges; I just want the dog back."

Anyone with information is asked to call KCK police at (913) 596-3000.
