KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs have taken over this town, but the city still doesn't exactly shut down for game days — yet.

Before the Chiefs take the field at Arrowhead Stadium, it's actually game on for one local business.

McGonigle's Market, perhaps the city's most beloved meat market, was a hopping place last Sunday before KC's game at Detroit, slinging plenty of to-go barbecue orders at the corner of West 79th Street and Ward Parkway.

"All these people are showing up, this is more people than I've ever seen here before," Joe Spector said.

Fans lined up well before McGonigle's opened at 11 a.m.

The staff there knows that Chiefs fans prepping for a noon kickoff want their food fast, so they can get home for the start of the game.

"The service here is good enough where we can get in, get out," John Robertson said.

McGonigle's serves up order after order from 11 a.m. to noon most football Sundays.

"They're in and out before that noon game, so it's a mad rush," McGonigle's Market Chef Lon Froneberger said.

Froneberger said it's the same drill every Sunday, a line before opening and orders coming in just as fast as they're going out.

"Just kind of keeping up, make sure everybody gets through in a timely fashion, I mean that's key," Froneberger said.

McGonigle's has the keys to business success down pat on Sundays. This year, fans believe the Chiefs do too.

"Patrick Mahomes is a god," Robertson said. "He's the second coming of Jesus Christ, and we're going to the Super Bowl."

Come game time, many Chiefs fans are on their feet at Arrowhead Stadium or in front of a television.

Meanwhile, at McGonigle's, things slow down a bit, allowing the staff to prepare for the next mad rush at halftime.

"They got TVs on the inside, so as long as I get a glimpse here and there, I'm all good," Froneberger said.

Working during the game isn't a problem for the folks at McGonigle's.
