KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dave Ramsey has helped millions of families across the United States eliminate debt and build wealth. Now, he's bringing that knowledge to an event called MarginKC in the Kansas City metro area.
Ramsey said Kansas City is "just the perfect place to really bring all this together and really bring a lot of these families hope."
Starting Sept. 7, around 60 churches will lead more than 50,000 local church-goers in MarginKC. The 10-week program will cover time and money management topics, while promoting church-wide participation in Ramsey's Financial Peace University outside of Sunday morning worship.
"We believe that if we can tackle this root problem of margin that it's going to open up a wonderful sea of restoring marriages, giving people financial freedom and also opening up the doors of generosity to help fix some major issues here in Kansas City," said Randy Frazee, lead teaching pastor at Westside Family Church.
The goal is to create more families like Keith and Lisa Jones, who paid off more than $300,000 in just five years.
Lisa Jones remembers totaling all of their debts in the beginning.
"I had heart palpitations. I mean, my head spun. I was sick to my stomach," she said.
Now, the couple has moved into their brand new custom home in Shawnee, Kansas, and they're hoping to convince more people to follow Ramsey's plan like they did.
"Why don't you just get out of debt and then go right back in? Wait 30 days and just try it, then go right back in," the couple said. "You really don't know how good it feels until you get there."
