KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A motorcyclist has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a crash that happened on Thursday afternoon.
It happened on southbound Interstate 49 near 140th Street in Grandview, Missouri, around 3:30 p.m.
Grandview police said the motorcycle rear-ended an SUV.
The motorcyclist, identified as Derek Vaughan of Raymore, Missouri, was taken to a hospital, where he later died due to his critical injuries.
Police said initial investigation indicated speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
They also said Vaughan's helmet was not up to Department of Transportation safety standards, which may have contributed to the injuries he sustained.
