A motorcyclist was injured during a police chase on Monday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City police said at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, officers saw a vehicle that matched the description of an alleged kidnapping suspect vehicle in the area of Bannister and Grandview Roads. Officers attempted to stop the woman driving the stolen vehicle, a Chrysler 300, but she refused to stop. Police then began to pursue the stolen vehicle.

"As bad as this is, it could have been a lot worse,” Sgt. Bill Mahoney with KCPD said.

During the chase, the woman was weaving in and out of traffic on southbound Highway 71. As she was coming up on Red Bridge Road, investigators said she darted from the middle lane toward the exit. The woman slammed right into the motorcyclist, sending him flying into a nearby field.

"She didn't take the care to look for the guy, she took an abrupt right-hand turn from the wrong lane,” Mahoney said.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

In a tweet Monday afternoon, KCPD Chief Darryl Forte wrote the rider didn’t suffer any broken bones or internal injuries. He’s alert and speaking at the hospital.

The impact dented the back of the stolen car. Despite hitting the man, she kept going.

"It's tough if you're on a motorcycle you're very vulnerable. The worst driver out there is your problem,” Mahoney said.

Once the woman exited Highway 71, she took the corner onto Red Bridge Road way too fast, sending her into a raised median. Officers arrested the women without any problems.

The ramp from eastbound I-435 to southbound 71 Highway reopened around 12:45 p.m.

"This is completely irresponsible, we've got her and she's got a lot to answer to,” Mahoney said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
