Don Fowler is now nursing scrapes and stitches in his head as he deals with the aftermath of the horrible incident that played out at his residence.

The 81-year-old man told 41 Action News he was beaten and tied up by two men who came to his door offering gutter cleaning work.

The home invasion resulted in two suspects, identified as Ronar Santiago-Torres and Joseph Wyatt, allegedly shooting Independence police Officer Tom Wagstaff in the head. The suspects stole Fowler's vehicle and busted through the garage doors, shooting at responding officers.

Fowler's neighbor, Michael Nielson, has the incident all on surveillance video. He had installed cameras after concerns of crime in the neighborhood. Fowler had been robbed just a year earlier, and installed a video surveillance system, too.

The video shows two men approaching Fowler's door around 9:30am on March 29th, and the commotion that followed. Officer Wagstaff was out of the camera's sight, but the video shows other officers putting a person into a van.

Nielson says that person was Officer Wagstaff, who'd been shot. He looked out his window after he heard shots, and saw police doing CPR on Wagstaff and then hurrying him away in that van.
