Parents will soon have a new place to send their children to school in the Midtown area.

Citizens of the World Kansas City said they plan to open a charter school at 3435 Broadway in a building previously owned by Kansas City Life.

“We are proud to offer our support to Citizens of the World Schools,” said Kansas City Life President, CEO and Chairman of the Board Philip Bixby in a news release. “We believe this new school will strengthen our Midtown community and encourage parents to stay and raise their children in this neighborhood because they have more quality education options.”

The school will open this summer and hopefully bring new life to Midtown.

"Part of the reason we feel like families have left is because they didn't have enough good quality education. We believe this will encourage them to settle here," Kurt Schoeb with KC Life said.

The school will enroll kindergartners and first-graders for the upcoming school year. Plans are to add a second-grade class the following year.
