KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Officials in Johnson County plan to release findings in an officer-involved shooting that left two dead, including a 14-year veteran of the Overland Park Police Department.

Johnson County District Attorney Steve Howe and Overland Park Police Chief Frank Donchez will hold a news conference at 2 p.m. Thursday to discuss the investigation into the May 3 shooting near West 123rd Street and Antioch Road.

Officer Mike Mosher, 37, was killed in the shootout with suspected hit-and-run driver Phillip Carney, 38, who also died in the exchange of gunfire.

In May, police said Mosher was off-duty but in uniform and driving to work when he responded to a hit-and-run crash, following the suspect to the area of West 123rd Street and Antioch Road. A confrontation followed, and Mosher and Carney exchanged gunfire.

Carney died at the scene. Mosher was rushed to an area hospital, where he died.

The Overland Park Police Department had last lost an officer in 1985. Mosher was survived by his wife, Corinne, and his daughter, Tyler.
