KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Olathe man pleaded guilty on Monday to one count of wire fraud.
Jeffrey P. Wilson, 37, admitted that he posted an advertisement on Craigslist “offering to sell Medx1.com, an online pharmacy business he claimed used a fulfillment pharmacy in India,” according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.
A man from Texas responded to the ad, and Wilson, according to McAllister, sent the man false bank records, claiming the business generated “gross revenues of $15,000 to $40,000 a month.”
The victim learned, after sending Wilson $120,000, that the Medx1.com website had been shut down because Wilson neglected to pay for maintenance and hosting services.
Wilson could face up to two decades in federal prison and $250,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 18.
