KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Overland Park City Council voted down a proposed apartment complex at the southeast corner of West 95th Street and Mission Road.

The council voted, 9-2, on Monday to deny the development.

The council heard passionate arguments for and against the 190-unit apartment complex that would have been built at the old Ranch Mart South shopping center.

Residents who live behind the proposed complex spent months organizing their opposition to the development.

One of the biggest concerns was the height of the main apartment building.

Developers reduced the height of the main building by 15 feet and also reduced the number apartments from 210 to 190.

An attorney for the developers argued the changes made to their proposal were enough for the council to give its approval.
