OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Leaders in Overland Park could take the next step toward rebuilding a fire station.
A larger, more updated station near 75th and Conser streets would put firefighters in a better position to respond to emergencies.
Rebuilding the station requires more land. The current station is next to an American Legion post. The post has agreed to sell part of its parking lot to the city for $325,000.
The space would allow the city to expand the fire station and add green space between the station and the Marty Pool. The post asked the city to leave an access route from Conser Street to the rest of its parking lot.
Overland Park‘s public safety committee will discuss its options tonight at 7 p.m. and then pass along a recommendation on whether to buy the property to the City Council.
The city is scheduled to rebuild this station in 2023 or 2024.
