Worker dead after incident at Garmin construction site in Olathe

OLATHE, Kan. — UPDATE 11/28: The victim in this incident has been identified as Jubal D. Hubbard, 28, of Holden, Missouri.

ORIGINAL: A high-pressure valve ruptured and killed one person at the site of Garmin’s expansion on Monday.

According to the Olathe Fire Department, the person was working on the valve located near the loading docks behind 1210 E. 151st Street when it exploded around 2:15 p.m.

The worker, who is a contractor and not a Garmin employee, suffered severe burns before paramedics arrived, a fire official said.

Those paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. 

OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, is also conducting its own investigation. 

Garmin released a statement that read in part, “our sincere condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends, and coworkers”
