KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Forget about Swan Lake. We’re talking Swan … River!

Sunday, Berkley Riverfront Park will turn the mighty Missouri River into a racecourse for giant, inflatable swans as part of its Play at the Park event.

According to Stefan White, president of Friends of the River KC, the free fun starts at 8:00 a.m. August 20 with sunrise yoga, accompanied by harp music.

In fact, there will be music all day as well as fun and games. Bring a picnic breakfast or lunch and enjoy what Mr. White calls the “true heart of the city.”

Now, back to those swans...

There will be up to 200 of the six-foot swans floating down the river. Race heats will start at 11:00 a.m.

You can buy a swan for $125, then decorate it in any family-friendly way you wish.

If your swan comes in first in the finals, you win $3,000.

Most of all, this is a way for you to discover the beauty of Berkley Riverfront Park for free on a beautiful summer day. According to the experts in the 41 Action News Weather Center, there will be fair weather for the fowl fun at the river.
