KANSAS CITY, Missouri. — Police activity briefly shut down Interstate 35 on Thursday evening between Southwest Boulevard and Cambridge Circle in Kansas City, Missouri.
The incident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. just south of downtown.
It started as a traffic crash, according to police, before escalating to an attempted assault of a police officer.
One of the responding KCPD police officers encountered a person at the scene of the crash who took a swing at the officer. The suspect was possibly intoxicated or on drugs, police said.
The officer was no injured, but the incident triggered a massive KCPD response. The ensuing investigation briefly closed I-35, but all lanes had reopened by 7:15 p.m.
