Two people are in custody after a police chase through Independence, Missouri, Friday morning.
According to a news release from Independence police, officers received a call at 6:26 a.m. that a subject in a vehicle fired a gun outside of a home near 31st and Hidden Valley Road during a disturbance. Officers responded and located the vehicle that matched the description given by the caller.
The officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit.
The pursuit continued north of that location, and a passenger fled from the vehicle near 291 Highway and Frontage Road, according to the news release. The passenger was taken into custody.
Independence police said the driver continued to flee, and several stop stick devices were successfully deployed, slowing down the vehicle. Shortly after, the vehicle turned around and went south on 291.
According to the news release, more stop stick devices were deployed which flattened all four tires. The vehicle came to a stop on Hidden Valley, just east of 291 Highway. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle at that time, fled from the scene on foot and was apprehended by officers after a short foot pursuit.
Independence police said a firearm was located in the vehicle along with a spent shell casing. Police determined no one had been shot at the initial scene. On scene, officers weren't able to find a cooperative victim who could provide additional information.
Police said the firearm, a 40 caliber Glock, was determined to be a reported stolen weapon.
