Potholes cause problems for KC area drivers

MERRIAM, Kan. — The extreme weather we've experienced is causing problems for Kansas City area drivers.

The winter weather is damaging roadways and forming potholes.

"Hot, cold, hot, cold, really bad on the pothole situation for sure," said Alan Heriford, the owner of JOCO Auto Repair.

JOCO Auto in Merriam is servicing several cars a day with tire and rim damage as well as alignment issues.

"You can actually run into, you know, a couple of thousands of dollars' worth of damage sometimes on the vehicle," said Heriford.

If weather conditions continue to fluctuate, JOCO Auto expects to be even busier with repairs.

"Whenever we have the extreme temperatures, obviously the garage gets full with repairs," said Heriford.

Johnson County residents can report potholes to their city’s public works department.

Kansas City residents can report potholes by calling 311.
