Reconstruction is underway in downtown Liberty.

Right now, crews are completing phases one and two of the Downtown Liberty Streetscape project, and phase three will begin Wednesday. Once completed, downtown Liberty will have received a facelift above ground as well as some much-needed updates to infrastructure below ground.

The project will include reconstruction of the streets, sidewalks and utilities around the Liberty Square area. Sidewalks will be widened to a more pedestrian-friendly 14 feet. New landscaping and crosswalks will highlight intersections and even parking will be upgraded.

"We cannot thank our loyal Liberty customers enough," said Brenda K Toates, who owns D'Agee & Co. Florist downtown.

Construction is expected to be wrapped up by Christmas. To follow along on the construction click here.
