Crews began repaving along Rockhill Road in Kansas City on Monday.
In an effort to save money, the city is allowing contractors to work on a flexible schedule.
The construction started on the first day of classes for University of Missouri - Kansas City as well.
The city expects the repaving to be finished in about a week.
