KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dozens of rescued animals from Louisiana arrived in Kansas City overnight.

A total of 12 cats and 37 dogs arrived at Wayside Waifs around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

The animals were rescued by The Humane Society of the United States and evacuated from Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, due to approaching tropical storms.

Two team members of Wayside Waifs picked up the animals and transported them back in their rescue trailer.

The rescue said the pets could be up for adoption as early as the end of this week or the beginning of the next after medical evaluations are completed.
