KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Santa Claus arrived at Crown Center Friday just hours before the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Soon after St. Nick arrived on a horse-drawn carriage, a line of hundreds of families formed to pose for a picture and tell him their wish lists.

Santa Claus will be at Gingerbread Station near the Coterie Theater from now until Christmas Eve during normal mall hours.

Four generations of the Riggs family came out to see Santa Friday. They said this is the 40th year they’ve made a family trip on the day after Thanksgiving.

“It’s about family all being together. We eat fudge, we go to Fritz's for lunch, we go see Santa,” said Krisie Smith, of the family's third generation.

Kansas City Mayor Sly James will turn on the lights to a 100-foot tall tree at 5:30 p.m. Friday alongside YouTube personality and Kansas City native Kalen Allen, gospel singer Andrea Tribitt and the Youth Chorus of Kansas City.
