EARLIER | The threat of severe weather Saturday has event organizers making alternative plans or forcing them to cancel events.

Citing Saturday’s forecast, Leavenworth High School said Friday that it will move the commencement ceremony inside to the Main Gym.

Olathe South and Olathe North high schools both have graduation ceremonies scheduled for Saturday at the College Boulevard Activity Center.

A district spokesperson said the district is monitoring the weather and will make a decision three hours before ceremonies start.

In case of storms, graduation will be moved inside to the adjacent Olathe Northwest High School gym.

The district plans to notify parents via e-mail, social media and the district’s website.

Lee’s Summit has canceled its Big Truck and Equipment show scheduled for Saturday. No make-up date has been announced.

The National Weather Service has the entire Kansas City metropolitan area in a slight risk zone for severe weather on Saturday.

Saturday’s rainfall is just the first round of wet weather pattern.

41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak said excessive rainfall may lead to flooding concerns in the next 10 days.
