KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the holiday season ending, many are now enjoying their new smartphones and smart devices.

Security experts say users should take extra steps to keep those devices secure.

First, change passwords once you get a device on your Wi-Fi network. That goes for both the device and the Wi-Fi network.

There have been recent cases of hackers gaining access to home security cameras. This can happen when factory settings are not changed or if you use the same password for everything.

Changing any passwords can be the first step in securing your privacy.

Also, if a device offers a two-factor authentication, be sure to use it. That would require someone signing in to use a phone number to verify their identity.
