KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Clay County Commission and Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway are not seeing eye-to-eye.
The latest dispute comes less than a week after Galloway issued a subpoena to the Clay County Commission to obtain records she contends are normal records to perform a citizen-led audit.
In response, the commission filed a lawsuit to prevent Galloway from obtaining the records.
On Monday, a release from the Clay County Commission suggested that Galloway had halted her subpoena against the commission pending a judicial review of the county’s lawsuit.
Less than an hour later, Galloway issued a statement saying the county’s release was not accurate.
“The subpoena has not been withdrawn,” Galloway wrote in an email. ”Today's legal action took place to ensure the case could proceed efficiently. It is concerning that the Clay County Commission would mislead citizens and the media in this way. The Auditor is confident in her legal authority and remains diligent as she works to get answers for taxpayers."
