Analysts are dissecting and interpreting how the latest revenue numbers from Sprint and T-Mobile may impact a possible merger between the two wireless carriers.
Overland Park-based Sprint will announce its third quarter earnings Wednesday morning. It will include a “message from management,” but not a traditional conference call with analysts.
T-Mobile, the nation's third largest wireless provider, announced its quarterly earnings Monday. It did not hold a conference call either.
Many analysts expected these third quarter reports to include an announcement about a merger between the two providers. Both sides have reportedly been in talks for months.
Sprint has not commented on the possibility of a merger.
CNBC now reports an announcement may come in early or mid-November. At that point, the thousands of employees based at Sprint in Johnson County will have a better idea about the company’s future.
Sprint is the nation’s fourth largest cellphone service provider.
T-Mobile highlighted more than $500 million in profit and more than one million new customers in the past quarter. Analysts agree those numbers keep T-Mobile in the strength position in merger negotiations.
T-Mobile is based near Seattle.
Federal regulators would have to finalize any merger.
Sprint stock closed slightly down Monday. T-Mobile’s went up slightly over the same period.
