KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Thousands of people were expected to line the streets for Sunday's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, which has a theme this year of "Shamrocks and Shenanigans".

Actor Eric Stonestreet, who served as grand marshal, was among those excited for the rite of spring.

Stonestreet has an interesting history with the parade as 41 Action News learned Saturday.

"I was a clown in the parade when I was in high school," he said. "My uncle asked me to come and join him. I remember being so excited to do that. So, to be able to come back now in this way (means a lot), because I know how how important the parade is to KC."

Stonestreet said he gets emotional at parades.

"Parades make me cry for some reason," he said. "Not for some reason, I know the reason. Anything that I know that took a big amount of work and logistics and coming together, like musicals and plays, make me very emotional. My favorite thing about a parade is the fact everyone comes together for this one thing."

The parade was scheduled to begin at 11a.m.
