JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Residents of the Hawthorne Park apartments in Jefferson City never expected to spend Thursday digging through rubble.
But after a tornado bowled through town Wednesday night, leaving a swath of damaged across town that's exactly what most of them did.
41 Action News reporter Nick Starling spoke with residents of the apartment complex Thursday as they cleaned up the mess.
"Look at this place, there’s devastation everywhere," said Jacob Glover, who was packing any items he could salvage into his car.
Hawthorne Park resident Toni Marie Smith added, "I’m sad. I’m still scared. I’m still trying to find a lot of my friends."

More than two dozen people were hurt in the Jefferson City tornado, but no fatalities were reported as of Thursday afternoon.
According to Ameren, power should be restored to residents fortunate enough to still have a place to stay by Saturday.
