KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Shawnee Mission Northwest student injured Tuesday by a javelin is expected to recover.
During Cougars track and field practice, javelin throwers were performing a drill that was supposed to end with their javelins in the ground nearby.
One of the javelins sailed and struck a student in the upper thigh. The javelin missed any major arteries preventing any serious injury.
SMNW and its coaching staff plans to make changes to the drill to avoid possible accidents in the future.
