KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KCPD is investigating after someone left household garbage that looked suspicious at a Northland QuikTrip.
Police told 41 Action News they received a call about a suspicious package just before 3 a.m. and evacuated the QuikTrip on North Oak near 94th street.
A department spokesperson said the cardboard box was about the size of a basketball, with wires and tape coming out of it.
Officers said it looked concerning, especially since it was found near a trash can next to a gas pump.
The bomb and arson squad was called out. They X-rayed the box and its contents but couldn’t determine what was inside. A robot moved the package away from the gas pumps and an officer in a bomb suit investigated.
It was later determined someone was just careless in disposing of their garbage, and the package was not an explosive device.
Police said they are going to look into security footage and see about possibly filing charges.
The QuikTrip was closed for a short time while police investigated but has reopened.
