KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A 17-year-old Kansas City facing four charges in connection to a Labor Day 2018 shooting at the Sun Fresh market at 31st and Prospect will be tried as an adult.

Jackson County Prosecutors previously charged the teen, now identified as Santavion Metcalf with two counts of assault and two counts of armed criminal action in connection to the incident, which injured two people, including a teenage bagger working at the store.

A judge recently certified Metcalf to stand trial as an adult.

According to court documents, investigators spoke with a witness at the store who knew Metcalf from school and was able to identify him as the suspect. A review of surveillance video also identified Metcalf as the suspect.

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the shooting.
