Police are looking for four men who shot at a mother and her five children Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to shooting at 30th and Indiana around 6:20 p.m. A woman told officers she had spotted her car that had been stolen several months ago.

"[She] followed him and spoke with him, actually told him she wanted her car back, he said he'd give back to her at a later date, later time," Capt. Tye Grant, a spokesman with KCPD, said.

She began following the stolen car in her SUV, which led her into an alleyway near 30th and Indiana. There, several men began shooting at the woman and her five kids in her vehicle.

“They were rapid. Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! Pow! They were real quick," Bryon Curry, a neighbor, said.

In order to escape, she drove her SUV between the yards and crashed her car into a retaining wall.

No one was wounded by the gunfire; however, one of the children was struck by broken glass and transported to the hospital.

The suspects fled the scene.

Around this neighborhood, many are questioning the mother's actions.

“I could understand that she was angry, she was upset, but when it's like that, you have to look out for your children, especially if they're little or old, it doesn't matter," Rosilyn Rodgers, a neighbor who ducked in her living room when the shots rang out, said.

Police don't encourage others to do the same if they're in a similar situation.

If you have any information, call police or the KC Crime Stoppers Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
