5 jobs that pay well & don't require 4-yr degree

Studies show that on average, people with a bachelor’s degree earn more money than that people who only have a high school diploma. 

41 Action News reporter Alyson Bruner recently covered a story about court reporting, where you can earn six-figures without the having a college degree.

Joan Meyer, Pinnacle Career Institute President, says four-year degrees are not for everyone and technical schools give people well paying careers with a fraction of the time. 

Here’s a list of other occupationa that aren’t looking for four-year degrees and pay fairly well and have openings in the Kansas City area. 

1. Plumber: More than unstopping toilets, plumbing involves installing and maintaining pipes.

  • Average Salary: $50,660
  • Education: high school diploma or equivalent

2. Electrician: With a formal training from a vocational or technical school, you can be an electrician.

  • Average Salary: $51,110
  • Education: High School Diploma of Equivalent

3. Air Traffic Control Operator: Knowing what’s flying in the sky? Working in air traffic control can be exciting as a person tracks, lands and helps planes when navigating the skies.

  •  Average Salary: $122,340
  •  Education: Associate’s Degree

4. Dental Assistant: As long as people have teeth, there will be a need for dental assistants.

  •  Average Salary: $42,000
  •  Education: Technical School training

5. Tower Technician: Technicians work to install, repair and maintain cell towers.

  •  Average Salary: $47,950
  •  Education: Technical School training
