KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two tornado warnings issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Clay and Platte counties were canceled shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
NWS said it detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado over Smithville just after 1 p.m. with radar-indicated rotation.
Around 1:50 p.m., a tornado was spotted west of Smithville, according to the NWS.
A tornado has been reported just west of Smithville, MO.
