On Saturday, a new mural will be revealed at the College Basketball Experience (CBE).

The wall art depicts UMKC basketball.

“We wanted to bring Kansas City a little more into the College Basketball Experience,” said Celeste Lupercio, director of sales, marketing and events at CBE. “It’s located only here in Kansas City, so we wanted to really touch upon the Kansas City focus and we thought what better way than connecting Kansas City’s basketball team.”

Leadership teams with both CBE and UMKC joined together to make the project happen. The mural was designed and painted by Anthony Oropeza, taking him 55 hours to complete.

“There’s a tremendous civic pride within our city of Kansas City. Being able to have that connection from UMKC Athletics along with Kansas City is something that we are really excited about,” said Tim Riva, UMKC's director of marketing and ticketing.

“We want to let them know you don’t need to travel two hours, or even an hour, to get to a great venue and a great Division I college basketball game,” he said.

The official reveal will be Saturday at the CBE from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Men’s basketball head coach Kareem Richardson and Kasey the Kangaroo will be present.
