Midtown resident Haley Mott setup a security camera at her door after vandalism in the area including her own car windows being broken into.
She didn't expect the surveillance footage would catch a USPS delivery gone bad.
"I heard a big bang on the porch and then kind of a funny fumble noise, and when I went to the window, I saw a package land at the bottom of our steps on the sidewalk and then saw the postal van driving away," said Mott.
So she messaged her husband who had access to the security footage.
"I think they just thew the package up on the porch and it didn't quite make it and they didn't bother to fix it once it obviously had fallen," said Mott.
Mott confirmed the incident after reviewing the video.
"You can see all the sudden the package flies into view, hits the porch and falls down the stairs," said Mott.
In a statement, USPS says:
The U.S. Postal Service takes the customer's complaint very seriously and we apologize for this unfortunate incident. The Postal Service takes great pride in providing outstanding service to its customers. This incident was unfortunate and will be addressed with the carrier -- but the vast majority of the more than four billion packages shipped using USPS each year arrive swiftly, safely and intact.
USPS says the Kansas City, Missouri postmaster will personally visit the Mott's to apologize for the isolated event.
"Luckily this wasn't a breakable package but they don't know that and it could've been something fragile and it could've been something breakable and I just want to make sure that everyone gets their Christmas gifts and package in the way that they were meant to be received," said Mott.
